Seven local women will be recognised for their special contribution to their peers and the wider community on International Women’s Day on 8 March.
Mango Hill Market Place in Halpine Drive, already known for its strong community orientation, is again running its Woman of the Year Awards.
This year there are six categories, with a framed award certificate and a $300 shopping voucher for each winner.
One of the award recipients for 2024 is Kerri Raedel from Wamuran, who runs Buddy Bags, a charity which supplies items to children with everyday needs, no matter what their situation.
Kerri said she was surprised when the Lions Club of North Lakes nominated her, and even more surprised when she won the Community Builder category. She will use the gift voucher prize to fund more Buddy Bags.
The seven winners of the Woman of the Year Awards are all high achievers in their particular fields.
The winners for the various categories are:
Bev Poole Eco Warrior Category - Caring for our environment
Kerri Raedel Community Builder Category - Tireless commitment to the community
Marie Stewart Champion of Women Category - Paving a positive path for women
Helen Wright Community Legend Category - A recognised force for good
Kelly McGrath Guru of Growth Category - Champion of education and motivation
The sixth category is Next Generation - paving the way for a brighter future, where two winners, Constance Crowther and Cassie Garth, were awarded a certificate and prize.
The winners were chosen from a wide field by local community leaders and embody the spirit of the theme for International Women’s Day 2024 – Count her in - invest in women, accelerate progress.
