The community can have its say on the first stage of an alternative Bruce Highway route near Caboolture.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Baily said the community’s being invited to have its say on three potential options for a new parallel arterial road west of Caboolture.
“We are inviting the community to provide feedback for the project, in particular the section between Moorina and Moodlu," Mr Bailey said.
"This project aims to provide appropriate future transport access and accommodate future growth to the area west of Caboolture as development continues in this community and the surrounding region."
Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said planning for this project would identify a future corridor to provide a new major road connection for the fast-growing region.
"The Moreton Bay region is expected to increase its population by almost 200,000 people within the next 20 years, and we need to start planning for this,” Mr Ryan said.
"This project will provide an alternative route to the Bruce and help take cars off it.
“The proposed new road will help alleviate traffic in and around our region, so we can all get home faster.”
Member for Pumicestone Ali King said there are three potential corridor options.
“We’ll explore all options because we don’t want people stuck in traffic as our region grows and the economy booms,” Ms King said.
“We’ve already locked in a $2.1-billion package for the congestion-busting Moreton Connecter, which will ease traffic for North Brisbane and Moreton Bay commuters.
“The Bruce Highway Western Alternative project is now another project we’ve identified as a priority.
“We know the local community is very interested in this project, and we are getting on with the job.”
The road will be a 10-kilometre stretch of the broader BHWA corridor, 57km in length.
The Australian and Queensland governments have committed $10 million each towards the North Brisbane – Bruce Highway Western Alternative planning project.
