Ekka Long Weekend set for 2024

In a move that has delighted residents of Moreton Bay, councillors have voted in favour of granting an additional long weekend to the region.

The Royal National Show Holiday, traditionally celebrated on the same day as Brisbane, will now be observed on Monday, August 12, 2024, providing locals an extended break from their daily routines

Mayor Peter Flannery expressed his enthusiasm for the decision, highlighting the well-deserved respite that Moreton Bay residents would enjoy. He encouraged locals to take advantage of this opportunity to plan a holiday at home, exploring the wonders of their own region.

"This decision aligns with our longstanding local tradition and, in my personal opinion, is far superior to a mid-week break," Mayor Flannery stated.

"It presents the perfect chance for families to embark on a holiday within the Moreton Bay region and discover the hidden gems in their own backyard."

To facilitate this celebration of the People's Long Weekend, Mayor Flannery urged residents and visitors to support local businesses by buying local, shopping local, and holidaying within Moreton Bay, recommending the Visit Moreton Bay Region website as a valuable resource for finding exciting places to stay and play during the extended break.

In conjunction with the 2024 Show Holiday, the Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) and the Council will organise the annual Caboolture Family Fun Day again at Centenary Lakes.

Division 3 Councilor Adam Hain emphasised that the Caboolture Family Fun Day offers an affordable alternative to the well-known Ekka event in Brisbane. He highlighted the many advantages of attending the festivities, including free entertainment, reasonably priced rides, and a delightful winter atmosphere.

"As the cost of living continues to rise, it is crucial for us to provide low-cost entertainment options to ensure that families can enjoy themselves without breaking the bank," Councilor Hain explained.

"The Caboolture Family Fun Day is undoubtedly the best outing you can have while maintaining affordability."

Families are encouraged to bring their children to revel in the thrills and spills of the rides while exploring the vibrant market stalls. The event promises a day filled with joy, relaxation, and cherished memories for all who attend.
