Construction has now started on a new $16 million congestion-busting bridge in Caboolture shaving vital minutes of the daily commute for local residents.
The project is being jointly funded by Peet Caboolture Syndicate Limited, developers of Riverbank Estate, with an $8.9million contribution from Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Division 3 Councillor Adam Hain said over 7000 trips were expected to be made every day over the new bridge that will better connect residents in the new Riverbank Estate to the highway to get to work, the local primary school through Weier Road and Graham Road and community facilities in Morayfield.
“Today we’re turning the first sod to officially celebrate the start of construction on this new two-lane bridge and shared path for cyclists and pedestrians,” Cr Hain said.
“The new bridge between Weier Road and Market Drive will provide quicker and safer access for local residents in the newly-constructed Riverbank Estate.
“At present, if motorists had to get to Riverbank from the Bruce Highway they would need to travel about four kilometres by driving up Buchanan Road, then to William-Berry Drive and through Dickson Road costing valuable time for residents trying to get the kids to school, get to work or simply get around this great community.
“When construction of the bridge is complete, it will literally slash motorists’ journey by half, which for a growing community is fantastic news.
“Ultimately this bridge over Cundoot Creek will connect into a future road link between Lower King Street and Buchanan Road to further boost connectivity for local motorists.
“This development is a significant investment for our future and one that will cater for our growing Caboolture community.”
Peet Limited CEO and Managing Director Brendan Gore said the construction of the bridge would create 35 jobs and would help alleviate growing traffic pressure in the Caboolture CBD.
“As Caboolture grows, the volume of traffic is growing too so we have worked closely with council to design a solution that will benefit the whole district,” Mr Gore said.
“The new access road via Cundoot Creek Bridge creates a new eastern entrance from Riverbank straight onto the M1 and will cut the trip by half.
“Not only will this be more convenient for commuters, it will also divert unnecessary traffic away from the town centre and take pressure off Morayfield Road.
“This will become even more important in the future as Caboolture continues to grow and more families move into Riverbank.”
The traffic bridge is expected to be completed in the next 12 months, weather permitting.
