Members of Moreton Bay’s largest remote-controlled aircraft club are flying high after the organisation together with Moreton Bay Regional Council officially opened their new facility at Uhlmann Road, Burpengary East last month.
The Sports Aeromodellers Association Moreton Bay Region (SAAMBR), which is the amalgamation of some of South East Queensland’s earliest and largest RC aeromodeller clubs, celebrated their new facility with an aerial display of historical and current model aircraft.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Division 2 Councillor Peter Flannery assisted with the official proceedings and congratulated the club’s committee and members on their achievement and success as a club to-date.
“With more than 200 members under its wings, SAAMBR fosters a thriving community of hobby RC aeroplane and helicopter flyers, and I’m glad council has been able to support the club in finding a new home in Moreton Bay that can accommodate its large catchment area,” Cr Flannery said.
“Their experienced members are always willing to give a hand to people interested in RC aircraft flying, and even gave me a lesson in flying some very impressive aircrafts.
“If you’ve ever wanted to learn about RC aircraft and try your hand at sports aeromodelling, I encourage you to contact SAAMBR and its members.
Council and the association are now finalising a new community lease for the facility.
“SAAMBR will join more than 220 community organisations in Moreton Bay who are benefitting from council’s community lease program, which offers local groups the opportunity to access and manage a range of facilities for a nominal amount of $1 per annum.”
SAAMBR President Bill Sharpe said club members had already taken to the new facility.
“It’s the perfect venue for flying model aircraft, and its central location is great for our member base who come from across the region,” Mr Sharpe said.
“With the new lease between council and the club, I’m more than confident in saying we now have one of the best flying sites in the country.”
