Disappointing results for Caboolture’s junior teams in grand finals on the weekend did little to take away from what was a standout season across the board.
After finishing minor premiers with two losses for the year, the under-15 division one boys side were sunk by a late winner from Brisbane City in the 86th minute to go down 2-1.
It was the same scoreline in the under-14 division one girls’ grand final, as Grange Thistle capped off an undefeated season with a hard-fought win over Caboolture.
With just one loss all season, the under-13 division three boys were confident going into their decider against Lakes FC on Saturday, but it wasn’t to be as they were upset 3-1.
The under-12 division two side ensured there would be an addition to the club’s trophy cabinet, beating Moggill 3-0 in the grand final.
Caboolture were the victims of a late-season charge by the dark horses of the under-12 division 6 competition, as Moggill took out the title with a 3-1 win, after finishing fourth on the ladder for the regular season.
The senior sides will be hoping to turn the club’s fortunes around as they play their Capital League 3 grand finals this weekend, with A-grade playing AC Carina and reserve grade taking on Bardon Latrobe.
Four goals from James Fairgrieve helped Caboolture dispose of minor premiers St. George Willawong 5-1 in the A-grade semi-final, earning a week off before taking on Carina in this Sunday’s decider at Capalaba, who also upset Willawong on the weekend to earn their spot.
After going down 3-1 to Bardon Latrobe in the first weekend of finals, Caboolture qualified with an exciting win over AC Carina in reserve grade on Saturday. With scores locked 1-1 after extra time, veteran goalkeeper Jason Shields’ penalty shootout heroics ensured the minor premiers would advance to the decider.
