Young families in Caboolture can now speak with a child health nurse at their local library thanks to a new partnership between Children’s Health Queensland and Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Councillor for Division Three, Adam Hain said commencing on 5 September, 2017, a child health nurse would now be available from 10am every Tuesday at the Caboolture library.
“It’s a great new opportunity to have a chat to the nurse about your child’s overall health, routines, feeding, and any other parenting questions,” Cr Hain said.
“Children are born eager to learn and the first five years of their life are the most important for overall development.”
“This initiative is part of council’s hugely popular First 5 Forever program which offers fun and free activities at our local libraries to help children develop early literacy skills such as Playtime, Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime.
“The child health nurse presence is integrated with the regular stories, songs and rhymes scheduled at the library.
“Parents can chat to the nurse while they are at the library and will be referred to additional support or advice where required.
“The nurses and library staff work together to build a safe environment where families feel comfortable and create a support network amongst families to share solutions to common issues.”
Cr Hain said the partnership between Children’s Health Queensland and Moreton Bay Regional Council was established in 2015, which was also the same year the First 5 Program was introduced to encourage parents to talk, read, sing and play with their children at their local library.
“These sessions are a great opportunity for parents to meet other families, enjoy time with their little ones, and lay a solid foundation for their children’s future language and literacy learning,” he said.

Bribie Island, Wednesday and Friday 10.30am Caboolture, Tuesday 10.00 am (from 5 September)
