Moreton Bay Regional Council has awarded more than $5,000 in grants, to help community organisations bring to life a range of exciting events and activities across the region to celebrate Seniors Week (19 - 27 August 2017).
This adds to an exciting calendar of free events, workshops and programs, that will be on offer to seniors throughout the week at council libraries, galleries, museums and other facilities.
Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Lifestyle and Amenity Spokesperson, Councillor Matt Constance, said there was plenty on offer across Moreton Bay to celebrate Seniors Week in 2017, and to recognise the valuable contributions of older people in our communities.
“Seniors Week is a great opportunity to connect with and celebrate our senior residents and the valuable contribution they make to our communities - whether it be in the workforce, or as volunteers, community leaders, friends, carers or grandparents,” Cr Constance said.
“From a senior’s high tea, to expos, a day-trip and a glamorous ball, council is proud to support a rage of community events and activities across the region in 2017 that will promote inclusion, and help connect our senior residents with each other and their communities.”
Cr Constance said to help celebrate Seniors Week, council would also host a range of free activities, throughout the week, for seniors to enjoy through its libraries and museums that would include a range of technology training sessions from social media to robotics as well as a Making Do exhibition tour and morning tea at Bribie Island Seaside Museum.
“That adds to our ‘Older and Bolder’ health and fitness program for seniors, for which applications will open during Seniors Week on 22 August,” Cr Constance said.
“I encourage everyone in our community to get involved in Seniors Week celebrations, by supporting an organised activity near them, hosting your own Seniors Week celebrations with friends or family, or simply saying ‘G’Day’ and having a chat to older residents in your community.”
